Head of Engineering

Cloverly

Cloverly

Software Engineering
Posted on Friday, March 15, 2024
Solving our climate crisis requires bold action, and with more than $20M from top-tier investors, Cloverly is on a mission to make it happen.

We've made big strides already—our groundbreaking platform for climate action is trusted by Fortune 500 firms from Visa to American Express—but as an experienced team of founders, builders, and sustainability nerds, we know the journey is only getting started. That's where you come in.

What you'll be doing

As Cloverly's Head of Engineering, you'll be responsible for designing and delivering software that enables the carbon economy. We're already connecting suppliers of carbon removals and offsets with the companies who want to take action now; you'll double down on our existing strengths while partnering with our product and commercial teams on new products to help suppliers bring their goods to market and help companies ensure the quality of any carbon credits they purchase.

In the course of this work you will:

  • Lead, mentor, hire, and develop our core engineering team
  • Collaborate with leadership in developing and delivering our long-term product roadmap
  • Assess and pragmatically adopt tools, vendors, and practices to accelerate development
  • Directly implement features and functionality alongside the rest of the team
  • Set and maintain high standards for talent, process, and software quality

You'll report directly to Jason, our CEO, and your technical know-how and business acumen will be a key input to every aspect of our roadmap, strategy, and operations.

What you'll bring

You're an experienced manager with a track record of delivering great software. You don't need to be an expert in every aspect of engineering, IT, security, and operations, but you'll be able to speak the language and find help when you need it. You'll likely bring:

  • 5+ years of experience managing teams of in-house and contract developers
  • A strong track record delivering greenfield products
  • Experience implementing and supporting enterprise customers and B2B sales
  • A principled approach to risk-management and compliance, including experience with industry-standard certifications (SOC2, ISO27001, etc)
  • Deep expertise in the technologies we use day to day (AWS/Terraform, Python, TypeScript/React)
  • Extraordinary communication skills and an effortless ability to represent engineering effort in both technical and commercial terms

There's no extra credit in solving the climate crisis, but we'll award a few bonus points for candidates with particularly relevant experience. That might include:

  • Passion for environmental sustainability and a strong commitment for addressing climate change
  • Previous experience in an early-stage (pre-Seed => Series A) startup environment
  • Work history or demonstrable knowledge of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM)
